Texas Tyme Travel: Mal Thursday with Neal Ford & The Fanatics 'Every Night a New Surprise'

Mal Thursday adds sneerin' lead vocals and harmonica -- recorded in Austin in 2019 -- to a heretofore unfinished Neal Ford & The Fanatics backing track, recorded in Houston in 1966.

"Every Night a New Surprise," the Steve Ames composition ultimately given to The Moving Sidewalks for a classic B-Side (that was better than the A-Side) in the heady days of '67. A Texas Rock Classic, here presented in a time-travelin' crossover with Mal and the Fanatics. Dig:

Mal and the Machine

THE MAL THURSDAY QUINTET is currently at work on its debut LP, If 6 Was 5, at various recording studios in Texas, Massachusetts, and Oregon.  A 3-song 7-inch is expected out before the end of 2019. The band's current release, the double A-side "The Other Side of This Life"/"Don't Want You Either" (featuring the Northwest chapter a/k/a The Reverberations) has been getting airplay around the world, and selections from "Mal Thursday's Greatest Hits That Missed" have been getting spins on Little Steven's Underground Garage Sirius/XM channel 21. As host of The Mal Thursday Show broadcast and podcast, Mal has never shied away from playing his own records, and recently featured the O.G. New England chapter of the Mal Thursday Quintet live at 13th Floor Lounge as the second hour of the Live N' Wild Pt. 3 episode. The King Bisquik Flounder Hour!

Malathon 2018

This holiday season finds Mal up to his eyeballs in debt. The same back injury that torpedoed the Mal Thursday Quintet live album also resulted in tens of thousands of dollars worth of hospital bills and other medical expenses.

Please make a one-time or ongoing donation at the link below to help Mal get out from under and keep the lights on here at MTHQ. Thank you for your kindness.
